Parents, grandparents and other community members turned out in force to see Preludes, the Middle School’s musical theater troupe, in two spirited performances on November 11 in the Fonseca Center’s Experimental Theater.
The group – featuring 23 students from grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 – performed numbers from a variety of musicals, including Annie, Hamilton, Tarzan, The Wiz, Anything Goes, Hairspray, and Children of Eden. The students’ all-black outfits lent an extra touch of polish and style to the production.
The members of this year’s Preludes troupe are: Maia Barantsevitch, Danny Batista, Adrien Blanc, Carys Douglas, Liz Epes, Danielle Gantcher, August Grossman, AJ Halpern, Quinn Halprin, Nathalie Heath, Elizabeth Joffe, Maia Keller, Anthi Likitsakos, Sam New, Iris Pelli-Walbert, Grace Rabley, Phoebe Radke, Gharvin Ramnarase, Eleanor Schalkwyk, Lily Schwarcz, Lily Sharon, Gisele Thompson and Morgan Young.
Music teacher Katie Meadows and dance and drama teacher Jessica Bogart are co-directors of the Preludes. The group meets twice a week during the fall trimester only. These sessions provide a training ground for the students to strengthen their vocal, choreography and blocking skills.
