Upper School Play "Twelfth Night" Delights Audiences

A cast of 16 upper school students performed a rousing rendition of Shakespeare's romantic comedy "Twelfth Night" on Friday, October 25, and Saturday, October 26.

The play follows Viola and Sebastian, a sister and brother, who are shipwrecked off the coast of Illyria, a seaside carnival town. Viola disguises herself as a young man named Cesario and goes to work for Duke Orsino, with whom she immediately falls in love. From there, the 80-minute spectacle involves a love triangle, practical jokes and mistaken identities.

Nora Fellas ’20, who played Viola and has acted in each fall play during her time in the Upper School, said of the experience: “It is a really fun thing. Everybody wanted to be there for the theater and for the acting.” Sophia Van Beek ’22, who played the fool Feste, shared a similar sentiment, noting that “It was an amazing experience. It was fun to play the fool; he’s providing commentary on the world he observes and the world he is not a part of, but right next to. He is very wise — the wise fool. It was really fun to bring him to life.”
