The bleachers in Strayer Gym were filled with cheering students who came to support a futsal-style, fundraising soccer tournament between the varsity boys soccer team and the varsity girls soccer team.
The event, organized by MISH and DAA, took place on Thursday, November 7, and raised $777 to support Hurricane Dorian relief efforts in the Bahamas; combined with other donations collected earlier, MISH raised more than $1,300 for those impacted by the storm. In addition to the soccer tournament, students participated in a raffle and enjoyed a bake sale and a barbecue. Funds raised will be donated to Americares, an organization dedicated to saving lives and improving the health of people affected by poverty or natural disasters, including Hurricane Dorian.
“Dorian was so detrimental to the Bahamas and so many people lost their lives; even those who did survive lost pretty much everything except themselves,” said Logan Schiciano ’21, a junior class MISH representative. “I think it is important for Masters students to be aware of what is going on around us and respond.”
