Tower Wins Gold Medal

The Masters School’s newspaper, Tower, was awarded a gold medal in the 2012 Columbia Scholastic Press Association Medalist Critique for issues published during the 2011-2012 school year under the direction of Daniel Block ’12 and Alicia Chon’ 12.
The newspaper received a total of 922 points out of a possible 1,000, including a perfect score of 400 points in the verbal category, earning All Columbian honors.In the report, the judges said, “Tower is a very well written school newspaper that is filled with articles on a variety of topics relating to the school, community, state, nation, and world. The topics are interesting and entertaining and inform the reader at the same time. The writing is strong and balanced and the evidence of research and planning is evident. The sources are valid and support the facts and sides of the story.”
This year's staff is led by print editors-in-chief Tyler Pager ’13 and Johanna Costigan ’13 and web editor-in-chief Noah Buyon ’13. History and Religion teacher Ellen Cowhey serves as the faculty advisor. “I’m very proud of my staff for their efforts,” Cowhey stated.
Tower staff distributed the first issue of the 2012-2013 year on September 11; the next issue is scheduled for November 2. In addition, Tower is in the process of creating an online presence, which is scheduled to launch in the next few months.
