Tyler Pager ’13 has been selected to travel with a New York Times journalist to report on global health and nutrition issues.
Pager was chosen from hundreds of applicants for the annual trip contest sponsored by Nicholas Kristof, a longtime Times columnist and Pulitzer Prize recipient. In a recent issue of his newsletter, Kristof wrote: “I'm delighted to announce that my 2018 win-a-trip winner is Tyler Pager of New York State, Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, and Oxford University (where he's now a student of public policy). Tyler is a terrific young journalist, and I'm looking forward to traveling with him to report together on global health and nutrition issues, perhaps in Central African Republic.”
Pager, who will travel with Kristof this summer, will write stories for the Times website.
“I hope our work brings to light the pressing issues facing a region that is often neglected by mainstream media outlets,” Pager is quoted as saying in an article posted on the Medill website. “Nick has an incredible platform, and I'm excited to work with him to dive deeper into issues of global poverty and social justice.”
Pager, who served as an editor-in-chief of Tower when he was a Masters student, was named editor-in-chief of The Daily Northwestern, the newspaper at the Medill School of Journalism, in the fall of 2015. He graduated from Medill in 2017.
