News From Masters
Dobbs 16 took second place in the Mid-Atlantic quarterfinal round of the International Championship of High School A Cappella on February 3 at La Plata High School in Maryland. The group now advances to the semifinal round.
Sophomore Annie Rubinson won a special award for Best Soloist for her performance of the song “Pretty Hurts” during the quarterfinal competition. Ten high schools from New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia participated in the event.
“I’m so very proud of how the group came together to work as a team in preparation for its performance in this competition,” says Jennifer Carnevale, Chair of the Department of Performing Arts. “They sang with joy and love and represented Masters proudly. We also had an awesome group of parents, students and alumnae/i who traveled to Maryland to support the group. We are so grateful for their support!”
The other Dobbs 16 members who took part in the event were: Ian Accetta, Zack Barnet, Doron Dawkins, Elliott Feder, Zia Foxhall, Emma Friedman, Gabe Keller, Nick Mason, Natasha Scott Morton, Charlotte Peterson, Nova Rivers, Buster Scheuer, Sarah Scheuer, Haley Schickman and Heather Smith.
Ensemble members August DuBeau and Amanda Taylor, who were unable to attend due to conflicts with other events, will participate in the ICHSA Mid-Atlantic Semifinal, according to Mrs. Carnevale. That competition will be held on March 24 at Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, NJ.
