Daily Transportation

There are several potential means of transportation to and from The Masters School. These include school district busing, private Masters School busing, public transportation such as the MetroNorth train, as well as private group busing and carpooling. For more information regarding transportation, please click on the appropriate subheadings below.

New York District Busing

Most New York towns and villages within a 15-mile radius of The Masters School that provide busing to public school students will provide busing to Masters students as well (list of districts). However, it is advised that you contact your home school district’s transportation office regarding its specific policy on busing to independent schools. Please note: The deadline for requesting bus transportation through your home school district is April 1st.

All district school buses arrive at Masters by 8:00 a.m., in time for the start of the school day. Most buses return to Masters for each of two dismissal times – 3:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The time your child will be picked up in the morning or dropped off in the afternoon is determined by each individual bus company in conjunction with your local district transportation office.

MetroNorth Train & Shuttle (Hudson Line)

The Hudson Line of Metro North stops at the Dobbs Ferry Train Station, which is located 10 minutes from The Masters School. Many students from New York City and northern cities and towns use the train each day. Masters offers a one-way morning bus service from the Dobbs Ferry station to the School. The bus will meet the trains currently arriving at 7:32 a.m. from New York City and the 7:49 a.m. train arriving from Croton. In the afternoon, we have implemented a new shuttle route, which will depart campus at 3:40 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to bring students back to the train. If you would like further information, please contact the Director of Security & Safety, Ed Gormley, at 914-479-6427or email ed.gormley@mastersny.org

Please note: Students are able to obtain discounted rates for monthly commuter passes on MetroNorth.

NYC/Westchester/CT Busing

The Masters School currently facilitates private transportation for students in Connecticut, Riverdale, and Manhattan. We understand that many Masters families depend on private transportation and provided there is sufficient interest among families in Connecticut, Riverdale, and Manhattan, we will continue to facilitate bus routes in these areas.

Two buses will be used for round-trip transportation between Masters and Connecticut: one will travel along the Merritt Parkway, making stops at Exits 38, 35, 31, and 28; the other will run along I-95 and I-287 making stops at Exits 5, 4, and 3, as well as one stop in the Rye/White Plains area. Afternoon buses for each route will depart campus at 5:45 p.m. A 3:45 p.m. bus to Connecticut for Middle School families may be offered if there is significant demand from Middle School families.

For families living in Manhattan and Riverdale, one morning bus will pick students up from designated pick-up locations at 79th and Broadway, 116th and Broadway, and at Kappock Street and Netherland Avenue in Riverdale. Two buses will be used to return students to those same stops in the evening. The first afternoon bus will depart Masters at 3:45 p.m.; the second will leave campus at 5:45 p.m.

Due to the long distances that these buses travel, often during rush hour traffic conditions, we are unable to accommodate door-to-door service or additional stops in order to prevent students from spending excessive time on the bus. Parents will be responsible for transportation (and, in the case of Middle School students, supervision) to and from the common pick-up and drop-off points. The cost of Masters-managed private transportation will be determined by the number of students utilizing the service; the more families use the bus, the lower the cost per student will be. Later this spring, when we have a better sense of how many new students may potentially join the New York and Connecticut routes, we will be able to provide more detailed information on pricing.

For more details about the designated stops along this bus route, please contact the Director of Security & Safety, Ed Gormley, at 914-479-6427or email ed.gormley@mastersny.org.

Private Group Transportation

When a number of students are coming from a particular location not covered by public school bus service, families often arrange private group transportation. For example, our families living in the Northern Westchester, Larchmont and New Rochelle areas have arranged private bus service. If you would like further information, please contact the Director of Security & Safety, Ed Gormley, at 914-479-6427or email ed.gormley@mastersny.org.

Carpooling

Some families drop off and pick up their children each day. We're happy to help new families meet other families who live near their homes to facilitate carpooling. If you have any questions about Masters’ transportation options, please contact Director of Parent Relations Angelique Chielli at 914-479-6532 or angelique.chielli@mastersny.org
