Varsity Spring Sports Previews: Lacrosse, Golf & Tennis

The boys' and girls' lacrosse squads, the golf team and the boys' tennis team are all looking forward to a successful 2018 season.
BOYS' LACROSSE
Team strengths: "Outstanding leadership from our captains, positive attitude and team camaraderie," coach Tim Custer said.

Goals for the season: "Be in the top two of the Private Schools Athletic Association (PSAA) standings, host a playoff game, compete for the PSAA title and finish with a winning record," Custer said.

GIRLS' LACROSSE
Team strengths: "The team has done an amazing job of working together this season. We have had a number of team-building opportunities that the girls have embraced and were truly excited about. We hope that this carries on throughout the rest of the season," said coach Meghan MacWilliams.

Goals for the season: "To strengthen our defense and to give 100 percent each game," MacWilliams said.

BOYS' GOLF
Team strengths: "Because we were able to go away for preseason during spring break, we really created a sense of team unity and bonded," coach Brendon Barrios said. "Going to Orlando — and getting away from Masters for a week to solely focus on golf and get ourselves ready for the season — was a unique opportunity. It also helps having our Flight Scope simulator, which allows us to do something golf-related regardless of the weather. Obviously, golf is contingent on weather, and most teams in the area aren't able to play if the weather is bad, but we are able to hit every day in some capacity. It's either the driving range, simulator or a practice round at a local course. This helps our game remain somewhat consistent and allows the players to get feedback — ball speed, ball flight, etc. — immediately after every swing."

Goals for the season: "Our goal for this season is to compete in the Fairchester Athletic Association and really push some of the better teams in the area. We struggled a bit last season with confidence and really having that fighting spirit. This year, I really believe we have the ability to compete. The boys believe they can make some noise this year!" Barrios said.

BOYS' TENNIS
Team strengths: "Overall we have a lot of depth this year, the team is really hard-working and passionate about tennis. Several players stay after practice every day to keep hitting," coach Greg Lesser said.

Goals for the season: "The players on the team have strong tennis skills and our goals for the season include developing our match play strategies and competitiveness. If we can improve throughout the season and support each other as a team each match, it will be a successful season," Lesser said.
