New and Enriched Boarding Coming to Masters

The Masters School is excited to announce new offerings and improved programming in our residential program. This means more adventure, friendships and immersive experiences for our vibrant community of boarders.

In response to increasing demand and interest from current and prospective families, Masters will offer an enhanced seven-day boarding option as well as a new five-day alternative starting in the fall of 2019.

“Our seven-day boarding program is central to our school’s rich tradition and is an essential part of our energetic and diverse community. Therefore, we aim to offer an even more compelling value proposition to families who wish to be part of this experience,” said Head of School Laura Danforth.

The seven-day program will offer full-time boarders an array of experiential activities that will help them grow in new ways while creating unforgettable memories with friends and teachers.

“We understand that high school is a crucial time for students and their families, and our goal is to prepare students for college and beyond while reducing the complexities associated with this time in their lives,” added Danforth. To that end, students in the seven-day program will have access to driver’s education, test preparation classes and group college visits.

In addition, the enhanced seven-day program will provide unique opportunities for outdoor excursions and on-campus activities that build camaraderie and skills including hiking, sports and language lessons. Students will also benefit from life-skill courses in personal finance, cooking, home and auto repair and more.

Weekends will feature fun-filled field trips to New York City for architectural walks and museum visits, Broadway musicals, sports events and artistic performances, as well as annual visits to explore the history, local food and culture in Washington, D.C., Boston and Philadelphia.

Students in the seven-day program are welcome to stay in the dorms during the Thanksgiving holiday and long weekends and participate in a variety of engaging activities that are designed to make Masters a home away from home.

The new five-day boarding option will allow those who live within a commutable distance to take advantage of boarding closer to home. Five-day boarders will enjoy the benefits of a boarding education during the week, including full-time access to faculty and school resources for extra help, a tight-knit community after school hours while gaining independence and developing lifelong friendships.

The School’s mission, combined with its proximity to New York City, a 96-acre campus overlooking the Hudson River, and a century-old tradition of excellence in education, makes Masters a uniquely desirable destination.

"We hope you'll share our enthusiasm as we embark on this exciting new chapter," said Danforth.
