Sixth Graders Explore Marine Life Through Seining

Accompanied by Middle School teachers Dan Russo, Mark Tamucci and Chris Mizell, the sixth-grade boys ventured down to the Dobbs Ferry Waterfront Park for their annual seining expedition in the Hudson River on the morning of Friday, September 14.

The girls are slated to make the same trip on Monday, September 17.

“This trip is an early highlight of the sixth-grade curriculum,” Russo said.

Decked out in full-body waders and wielding seining nets, the students ventured into the river in search of marine life. The boys were quite successful, catching and identifying various species of fish, crabs and eels.

“There is only so much students can learn about the Hudson River inside the classroom,” Russo added. “This trip allows the students to fully submerge themselves in the Hudson River and connect with its inhabitants in a deeply meaningful way.”
