Masters Celebrates Founder's Day

A sea of blue and red took over Graduation Terrace to celebrate Founder’s Day on Friday, September 21, as students, faculty and staff boasted spirited Delta/Phi colors and cheered for their respective teams.

This special occasion celebrates the School's founder, Eliza B. Masters, and gives the community an opportunity to reflect on the history and traditions of The Masters School.

Opening with a reminder of the School’s mission, Head of School Laura Danforth, took a moment to express gratitude and encouraged others to do the same, “not just by word, but by action.”

Danforth marked the occasion by highlighting that, “Our founder, Eliza Masters, has made it possible for approximately ten thousand young men and women to get an extraordinary education,” and asked the community to stop and ponder, “Whose shoulders are you standing on?”

After Ms. Danforth’s remarks, student representatives of each class came to the podium and recounted details about the founding of Masters and its history. They were followed by Kendra Cooper-Smith ’19 and Jackson Stanich ’19, Co-Presidents of the Dobbs Athletic Association (DAA), who reminded everyone that Founder’s Day is a day for “camaraderie and healthy, fun competition.”

School colors were also present in the dining hall with a menu that included a purple potato soup, a selection of lasagnas with blue corn tortillas, cherry and blueberry pies and cupcakes with blue and red icing.

In the afternoon, the traditional Delta/Phi tug-of-war took place on West Field. Both teams certainly competed with all their might!
