Fifth Graders Visit Metropolitan Museum of Art

Fifth grade students took an annual trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Thursday, October 4.

This visit marked the start of a yearlong interdisciplinary project that combines arts and humanities, and culminates with a performance of puppet operas in May. Students explored the Egyptian halls during the museum visit, garnering valuable information on ancient civilizations.

“The students’ creative adventure is a collaborative effort involving all their subjects and teachers,” Middle School art teacher Bruce Robbins said.

The project also features work on original plays and designing puppet characters in visual arts class. The music component will include a visit to the Metropolitan Opera, giving students rare insight into composing their stories as operas.

Middle School teachers Heather Sherman and Katie Meadows accompanied Robbins on the trip. The trio will guide students through the exciting interdisciplinary project.
