Eighth Grader Sings Her Way to Radio City Music Hall

The world-famous Radio City Rockettes will have quite the accompaniment this year, as Alisa Beck ’23 joins a chorus that will perform at the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular on Saturday, December 8.

Beck, who has been singing since kindergarten, was invited to perform with the chorus after auditioning with the company Camp Broadway, a company which also gave her the opportunity to perform in the Broadway show Rocktopia.

And while singing is her primary musical focus, Beck has also taken up the guitar bass and dabbled in acting, recently playing Snoopy in the Middle School spring musical performance of You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown. She was surprised to find that “acting came somewhat naturally to me,” and hopes to continue exploring that aspect of performing arts.

Whether singing on the Broadway stage or in the Claudia Boettcher Theatre, Beck says that bringing joy to others through music is one of the most rewarding aspects of performing. “Music has come to me naturally for all these years, and it’s something I’m so enthusiastic about,” says Beck. “It’s really rewarding. You practice for a long time, and then you see people enjoy your performance and you think, ‘wow, I made these people happy and entertained them.’ ... I just really love it.”

With Rockettes’ tickets in high demand, most of us will have to settle for seeing Beck perform in next week’s Middle School Fall Talent Show on Friday, November 16 at 2:15 PM in the Claudia Boettcher Theatre.
