Eighth Graders Combine Art and Science to Create Paintings

Eighth graders launched paint-dipped cotton balls onto canvases to create eye-catching paintings last month.

The activity was organized by eighth grade science teacher Morghan Lewis.

“The eighth grade students are learning about projectile motion and what factors (variables) influence the path a projectile takes when launched,” Lewis said. “In order to achieve this, the students engineered their own catapults with popsicle sticks, bottle caps, binder clips, rubber bands and zip ties. It was a fun way to bridge art with science.”

Look for the paintings to be displayed at the eighth grade Arts Expo in the spring, further connecting the disciplines of art and science.
