Middle School Leadership Groups Raise Awareness About and Funds For Innocence Project

The organization, which the Middle School Diversity, Equity and Inclusion group tirelessly promoted through morning meeting presentations and the faculty versus staff basketball game, works to exonerate the wrongly convicted through DNA testing and to reform the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice. In partnership with the Middle School MISH group, which hosted a bake sale at the basketball game, the students raised nearly $550 for the Innocence Project.

The fundraising results are laudable, and just as importantly, “the students involved have now gained insight into how powerful they are,” said Tasha Elsbach, Head of Middle School and advisor to the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion group. “They can make own ideas come true and they can make a difference.”

Although the faculty team walked away victorious in the tournament, the event was a win for all involved.
