Join Us for Instrumental Prism Concert

On Thursday, April 11 at 6:30 PM, the Department of Performing Arts will present its 2019 Prism Concert, subtitled "Transitions," in Estherwood.

The concept of a Prism Concert originated at the Eastman School of Music. Aligned with the concept of white light passing through a prism to create a wide spectrum of colors, this concert is both a collection of individual compositions and, at the same time, a unified continuous composition in itself.

The various ensembles will be set up in different locations throughout the mansion. The performance will begin in the library with the first movement of a Beethoven Sonata, the Middle School Orchestra playing a work by Brian Balmages, and then the music (and the audience) will move throughout the dining room and music room before returning to the library for the close of the concert.

The Upper School String Ensemble and Chamber Music ensembles will be joined by the Middle School Orchestra for this concert. Composer Carl Holmquist will be on hand as guest conductor for his own composition, "Light the Way," based on the classic theme from the New World Symphony by Antonín Leopold Dvořák. Curt Ebersole, a member of the Department of Performing Arts faculty, will conduct the remaining works on the program.
