Fashion Show Showcases Cultural Attire

Student models donning traditional cultural attire stepped out onto the stage in the Claudia Boettcher Theatre on Monday, May 6, during morning meeting.

The fashion show was hosted by International Club; Beyond Threads, the School’s fashion club; and Students of Africa Club as a way to highlight and celebrate the traditional garb of students’ cultures and countries.

Marlena Vogel ’20, Vice President of International Club, said that she came up with the idea when a fellow student was showing her images from a fashion show. “I thought the show would be a good way to not focus on the materialistic aspect of those clothes, but of the meaning they have,” Vogel said. She brought the idea to the club, and they started gathering volunteers who were interested in modeling or donating traditional clothes. “I thought it was a big success,” said Vogel, who was quick to note that she hopes the fashion show will continue as an annual tradition at the School.
