Long-Time Faculty Member Receives Anna Howe Faculty Award at Reunion 2019

On Saturday, May 18, Colleen Roche, Upper School history teacher, became the 18th Masters School teacher in the School’s history to receive the Anna Howe Faculty Award.

The award is given to a current or former faculty member who has helped shape and change the lives of his or her students, and who has made a meaningful difference in the lives of those students.

Roche stood before more than 100 alumnae/i and faculty at the Reunion 2019 Banquet Dinner and Awards Ceremony and accepted the award from Head of School Laura Danforth, who shared moving testimonials from current and former students of Roche’s, as well as some of her colleagues. In her acceptance speech, Roche explained that the students are the driving force behind her long tenure — 23 years — at the School. “Masters students are the most engaged I have seen anywhere,” Roche said. “They keep me on my toes; I often say I learn from them as much as they learn from me. Masters students are kind, supportive of each other, creative, and intellectually curious. I am so grateful to work with Masters students and to have my own children now enrolled here, in the Classes of 2022 and 2025. To receive the Anna Howe Faculty Award, for which I was chosen by former students, is indeed a great honor.”

Roche was selected to receive the award by the Dobbs Alumnae/i Association Board, which annually compiles nominations for Reunion awards, including the Anna Howe Faculty Award.
