Welcome to the New School Year

Excitement, energy and enthusiasm filled The Masters School campus over the past two weeks as students returned to kick off a new year.

Upper school boarding students participating in preseason were the first group to come back, on Sunday, August 25. After settling into their dorms, the boarders joined day students for a week of preseason practices to hone their skills on the athletic fields and in the dance studio.

It wasn’t all work for the preseason athletes and dancers, though: Throughout the day and into the evening, students spent time catching up with old friends and new, taking in movies in the Fonseca Center, and heading off campus for trips to local malls and entertainment venues.

Twelfth grade students had the opportunity to participate in the College Counseling Office’s second annual College Preseason, during which students learned about the Common Application, financial aid and more. New upper school and rising grade 9 students were welcomed back for an orientation on Friday, August 30. The first Community Weekend of the year included a lip-sync contest, the Dorm Olympics and a trip into New York City.

“It was fantastic to feel the positive energy and excitement that the students brought back to campus with them,” Interim Head of Upper School Peter Newcomb said. “Seeing them reconnect with one another and welcome those new to the community were the highlights of a wonderful week of Opening Days.”

After a week of preseason and welcome days, it was time for school to officially begin; all upper school students headed to class on Tuesday, September 3.

In the Middle School, families began the first week of school by meeting with their student's advisors on Tuesday, September 3. The following day, students took part in an orientation day that included classes, icebreakers, games and more. "It's been so wonderful to see the smiles on students' faces as they reconnect with old friends or discover new ones," Head of Middle School Tasha Elsbach said. "We are off to a great start!"
