Curriculum Night Brings Parents Back to School

Middle school parents and guardians went back to the classroom as they followed a sample schedule and met their children’s teachers during Curriculum Night on Thursday, September 12.

Head of School Laura Danforth welcomed the attendees in Doc Wilson Hall and her opening remarks acknowledged the challenges of the middle school years. “Middle School can be tough. But I really believe that a healthy middle school is where kids can be found and not lost. This is a school where we have the kind of teachers and administrators who will ensure your kids will not be lost.”

Head of Middle School Tasha Elsbach agreed, “I feel very lucky to work with people who truly care about the learning experience your child will have, not just about the content being taught, but also about skills, particularly life skills.”

Elsbach shared specifics about the evening and parents went off the classrooms. The main goal of this event was to allow parents to gain a better understanding of the expectations teachers have for their students and to experience a day in the life of a middle schooler. In addition to attending information sessions on their students’ classes, the night was also an opportunity for parents and guardians to mingle and meet several administrators.

Alumna and Co-Chair of Parent Association Programs Amie Servino Kritzer ’95, P’26 and her husband Matt Kritzer P’26 attended the event for the first time as new parents. Their son, Alex, joined Masters as a sixth grader. “We thoroughly enjoyed Curriculum Night! Going 'back to school' for the evening was a wonderful opportunity to connect with our son's teachers, to learn about his classes and activities, and to experience Masters from the student perspective. We were incredibly impressed by the program, as well as by the faculty. Thank you for organizing such a fun and informative event for parents!"
