Sophomore Receives Honorable Mentions for Photography

This summer, George Chang ’22 was visiting a salt field in China with a photography tour when he snapped a picture of three individuals working to extract salt from the sea.

The brooms they were using to do this work “created a pretty pattern. It’s quite an interesting angle,” Chang said.

That image became one of Chang’s favorites and, along with three other photos from his trip, received an honorable mention from the International Photography Awards, a global, annual competition for professional, amateur and student photographers. But this isn’t the first time this skilled visual artist has been recognized for his work: He received second place in a National Geographic youth contest and is currently awaiting the results from a few other competitions.

For the last few years, Chang has been pursuing an interest in photography, a skill he learned from his father. And he’ll have plenty of practice behind the camera this year, as he captures images of campus life for the School’s newspaper, Tower.
