New International Students Celebrated During Morning Meeting

The total area of Russia is 6,612,073 square miles. The endangered snow leopard is native to Mongolia. Italians have been creating pasta dishes as far back as the 4th century.

These interesting facts and more were part of the annual flag ceremony that took place on Thursday, October 3, during Morning Meeting. Nineteen new international students stood before the upper school community with their countries' flags and introduced themselves in their native languages. The students hail from Bulgaria, China, France, Germany, Korea, Italy, Mongolia, Russia and Spain. This year, Masters has welcomed students from 14 states and 30 countries.

The annual flag ceremony is hosted by the International Club, which provides support to Masters’ growing number of foreign students and to promote awareness, understanding and appreciation of foreign cultures within the school community. The club is open to all foreign and domestic students interested in the cultures.

Junrong (Karen) Li ’20 is co-president of the International Club and has been involved during all four years of her time at Masters. “The whole point of the flag ceremony is to celebrate diversity and advocate for cultures. Masters is such a diverse school and we want to showcase that. This is a place where people openly accept who you are, no matter where you come from, what your skin color is, what ethnicity you are.”

The International Club hosts various events throughout the year, including a Korean BBBA, a New Year celebration, International Head’s Dinner and more. All are welcome to attend these events!
