Tatarian Records 1,000th Career Point at Masters

Standout varsity girls basketball player Brooke Tatarian ’21 reached an impressive milestone in a 56-55 victory over Summit Academy on December 29, 2019.

The reigning all-state performer recorded her 1,000th career point at The Masters School, joining a star-studded group that also includes Kendra Cooper-Smith ’19, Jackie McCaffrey ’04, Allie O’Donohue ’04 and Naya Williams ’14.

Tatarian entered the history books in the second half against Summit Academy, fighting for a rebound before finishing a tough put-back in the paint.

"I was happy with that play because it wasn't only showcasing that I scored my 1,000th point but that I was able to get the ball and rebound it and go up strong with it," Tatarian, who finished the game with a double-double (22 points and 11 rebounds).

The moment showcased Tatarian's development as a more well-rounded and dangerous player this season.

"My physical strength has gotten a lot better," Tatarian said. "That's really getting me more opportunities — cleaning up unfinished baskets. But for me, it's not all about scoring. I just want to contribute in as many ways as possible for my team."

Tatarian added to her impressive points total in a 75-26 victory over visiting Léman Manhattan Preparatory School on Wednesday, January 8. She posted 15 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, boosting her points total at Masters up to 1,023. Prior to Masters, Tatarian played a pair of seasons on the varsity team at Bronxville High School as a seventh and eighth grader, giving her 1,333 points for her entire varsity basketball career.

Alas, Tatarian isn't focused on individual accomplishments as the 2019-2020 season kicks into high gear.

"I think our team has big goals and we want to win (the NYSAIS) state title again," Tatarian said. "That's what I'm looking forward to. This is a great accomplishment, but we have to keep working. I'm not going to settle."
