YoungArts Finalist Participates in Weeklong Intensive

Along with a passel of other talented young artists, Jonah Ginsburg ’20 traveled to Miami earlier this month to participate in the National YoungArts Week, a weeklong program for National YoungArts Foundation finalists that features master classes, workshops and mentorship from leading artists in their fields.

On the heels of the intensive, Ginsburg was one of 60 YoungArts finalist invited to apply to the 2020 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, which recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts.

Ginsburg’s work is architectural in nature, but, he noted, it “deals with space in a more abstract way. I call most of my work a study on spatial systems.” The senior, who was the only architectural finalist to participate in the National YoungArts Week from January 6 through 13, said that the experience was “incredibly inspiring.” He particularly enjoyed the focus on interdisciplinary work and collaboration: “Because they have all of these talented people from different areas, they try to represent the idea of merging the disciplines and encouraging collaboration between them. That’s one of the biggest things I’ve taken away.”

Ginsburg, who is heading to Cornell University in the fall to study architecture, is pleased to have received such impressive accolades. But at the end of the day, he explained, “The main focus is the work.”
