English Students Forgo Super Bowl for Shakespeare

As millions of Americans were watching the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 2, senior AP English students were taking in a vastly different form of entertainment: Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.”

The students and their teachers, Miriam Emery, Lisa Green, and Miguel Segovia, attended a new production of the Bard’s play at St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn, New York. The classic tragedy, which was produced by Ireland’s renowned Gate Theatre, featured a female actor, the Oscar-nominated star Ruth Negga, playing the role of the tragic prince. For this group of Masters students and teachers, there are “more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,” than a showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
