Middle School Book Fair A Celebration of Literature

The event, which ran from Tuesday, February 25, through Thursday, February 27, also included workshops and readings with visiting authors.

All middle school students had the opportunity to visit the book fair, which offered more than 550 book titles and was a partnership with Main Street Books in White Plains. Many students also participated in workshops and readings with visiting authors: grades 5 and 6 met K. E. Rocha, author of the “Secrets of Bearhaven” series; all students heard from Sheela Chari, author of “Finding Mighty,” who also led a writers workshop for a group of students in grades 6 through 8; and Masters’ very own Jean Colebank, middle school math teacher, shared her book “Sit Down, Little Prince!” with all students. 

“The level of excitement the kids displayed about being around books was very rewarding to witness,” said school librarian Judy Murphy, who organized the event. “The relationship between children and books is alive and well!”

Murphy noted that choose-your-own-adventure stories, science fiction and graphic novels were big sellers at this book fair. A surprising hit was the Greek epic poem “The Iliad” by Homer, which sold out.
