Masters Holds First Annual Student Leader Training Workshop

More than 100 students gathered virtually on Friday, June 5, to participate in "Building the Culture at Masters," a student leader training workshop designed by faculty members Lee Dieck and Meghan MacWilliams.

The training consisted of four main modules that helped students discover their character strengths, reflect on the nature of leadership, learn about proximal goal setting, and explore the ways in which they can bring their whole selves to leadership.

Participating students included peer leaders; proctors; diversity ambassadors; leaders of EFFECT, MISH, Gold Key and DAA; grade-level co-presidents; and the co-chairs of the student body for 2020-2021. Head of School Laura Danforth kicked off the event, reminding students of the critical role they play in building the School’s culture. Head of Upper School Peter Newcomb closed the event by having students remember the student leaders who had a positive impact on them when they first arrived at Masters, encouraging them to emulate those impactful moments. After the main training session, each group had short meetings with their faculty advisors.
