Godwin Competes at Under Armour All-America Underclass Tournament

Sabine Godwin ’23 played a major role in guiding the Connecticut/New York (CONNY) girls lacrosse squad to a championship at this past weekend's prestigious Under Armour All-America Underclass Tournament, which featured the best high school players in the nation.

"One of my goals has been to play in an Under Armour All-American Tournament," Godwin said. "It was really amazing to accomplish this."

Godwin's CONNY team knocked off top-seeded Baltimore in the final, capping off a thrilling tournament experience. Godwin, a starter on the defensive unit, was called on to provide an additional spark on draws in the final.

"Our coach knew she needed to change the energy as our lead was starting to slip away," Godwin said. "She asked me to move from defense and take the draw, as we were losing most of them. It was an unexpected and amazing experience to be asked to take the draw and to get the support of my coach and team."

Godwin, who first picked up a lacrosse stick in the second grade, competed on Masters' middle school girls lacrosse team in seventh and eighth grade. She was poised to make her varsity debut last season before the pandemic wiped out all spring sports. Godwin is also a member of Masters' varsity track and girls soccer teams.

Looking ahead, Godwin has big aspirations for her career at Masters and beyond.

"At Masters, my goal is to score 100 goals by my senior year," said Godwin, who added that her long term goal was to eventually play lacrosse for one of the top Division 1 programs in the country.

Based on Godwin's current trajectory, she seems well on her way to making it all a reality.
