Ghoulish Fun at Estherwood

As an Estherwood Mansion resident for almost 30 years, middle school art teacher Bruce Robbins knew exactly why the historic, on-campus hall would be a “boo-tiful” setting for a virtual Ghost Stories gathering on Saturday, October 17.

“It was fun to share some of the history of this majestic location with a new generation. I also enjoyed seeing the reactions of the audience as they listened to some overly dramatized ghostly tales. We are close to Halloween after all! Hehehe!” said a gleeful Robbins.

About a dozen middle school students who attended the special online event were thoroughly entertained by Robbins’ haunted house tales and do-it-yourself ghost-making art project.

“I loved making the ghosts because it sparked my creativity. I didn’t know what to think but Mr. Robbins is a great storyteller. I learned about ghosts and all about the history of Estherwood and we made a super fun project, ” said Loewy Nalle ’27. Kate Anderson ’27 agreed. “I had fun learning about Estherwood and some of the stories were really creepy, “ she added.

Assistant Coordinator of Weekend Activities Joe DiDonato was equally impressed. “Watching Bruce instruct the kids on how to make the ghosts was as great as watching Bob Ross instruct us how to paint ‘happy little trees,’” he said as he referenced the host of the well-known painting show “The Joy of Painting.”

Even though it was a remote experience, a spooky and delightful evening was had by all! “I really enjoyed listening to the stories and telling my own. It was really fun and a good amount of scary,” said Nizaabu Mukiibi ’27.
