Model UN Team Takes Home Honors

Fourteen student leaders from Masters competed against some of the best teams in the country.

Here are the awards that were received by our team:

Caio Lanes ’21 - Honorable Mention
Carolyn Hohl’ 21 - Honorable Mention
Mia Romanoff ’22 - Outstanding Delegate
Clara Kolker ’22 - Best Delegate
The Masters School - Best Small Delegation

Student delegates bring ideas about how to solve a historical or modern issue and try to convince other delegates to support their viewpoint. A great deal of preparation and research is needed before a conference. “To be successful in MUN, a delegate needs to trust their information, their instincts and their charisma to carry the day and many of our delegates did this very successfully,” faculty advisor Brittany Farrar explained.

Lanes, whose crisis committee challenge at the conference was focused on the years prior to World War II, finds the whole experience rewarding. “Model UN is a fun exercise that forces you to practice your rhetoric and leave your comfort zone, working with strangers and finding compromises for your goals.”

Kolker participated as Ares in the Greek gods crisis simulation and was thrilled to win. “This is something I've worked towards since the ninth grade, and it's super exciting and gratifying to have achieved it.”

As they prepare for the Yale University MUN Conference in January, Kolker says they couldn’t do any of it without Farrar’s support. “She's an amazing advisor and coach and we are so lucky to have her!”
