Signing Ceremony Celebrates Trio of Athletes

As they put pen to paper, their smiles sealed the deal. Three of Masters’ top senior athletes — Brooke Tatarian (Fairfield University/basketball), Allie Koziarz (Wellesley College/basketball) and Eliza Abady (Goucher College/tennis) — celebrated their commitment to play at the collegiate level during a signing ceremony at the Fonseca Center on Monday, June 7.

Director of Athletics Logan Condon noted what a “true testament (it is) to all the hours, hard work and dedication that they’ve put into their crafts. Collectively, they have raised the level of our Athletics programs and have set the bar for future Masters athletes.”

Tatarian is a two-time, all-state standout who is the first Masters girls basketball player to play Division 1 basketball since Jackie McCaffrey ’04. Tatarian recognized the empowering moment of sharing the stage with two other female athletes and its impact on younger girls and boys who want to play sports: “This can motivate them to continue working hard in order to reach their goals to play at the next level.”

For both Tatarian and Koziarz, winning the New York State Association of Independent Schools championship during their sophomore year is one of the top highlights of their playing time at Masters. “This was the first time that the girls team had won in the history of the school, so this moment put our program on the map,” Tatarian explained.

For Koziarz, the winner of the Coach’s Award in 2020 and 2021 and a deft outside shooter, the ceremony was a time for sentimentality. “The basketball team missed out on a traditional season this year,” she said. “Having a proper signing day was a great way to have closure to my basketball career at Masters.”

Touted as a role model and team leader by girls varsity tennis coach Greg Lesser, Abady’s talent and commitment to the sport helped drive her growth as a player during her time at Masters. A visit to Goucher’s campus was all it took for her to make the decision to continue playing at the next level. “Once I met the coach and met some students and teammates, I felt so comfortable and knew it was the place for me,” Abady said.

“I have no doubt that Allie, Brooke and Eliza will achieve many successes in college as they are incredibly passionate, determined and consistently strive to be better and surpass their goals,” Condon added.
