Most of the performances were recorded with the UpbeatMusic app and included live, in-person performances. The concert also includes hybrid recordings, with musicians performing their parts remotely and merging them using the Upbeat app to create a complete piece. According to music teacher Curt Ebersole, the challenges in putting it together were well worth it. “Given that we had to do most or all of this asynchronously, I’m quite proud of the students’ work,” he said.

Eighth grade flutist Jordan Lee ’25 was happy to have the chance to perform in a concert, albeit an online one. “My favorite part about the process was hearing all the different sections individually and then hearing them put together,” she shared.

Violinist David Schwartz ’23 found playing “Minuetto” by Jacques Fereol Mazas enjoyable because “It has a lot of different parts to it. I think we did a very good job.”

The concert link also features original compositions by the String Ensemble and Chamber Music class, as well as junior Ellanna Swope’s term project for her independent study in conducting.

Ebersole is delighted with his students “for their tenacity and determination, and for their trusting me that we could produce something like this in the end.”
