Varsity Girls Soccer Team Makes Long-Awaited Debut

For the first time in 600-plus days, The Masters School's varsity girls soccer team was back on the pitch for a match. The Panthers hosted Greenwich Academy in a Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) clash in front of a spirited crowd on Tuesday, September 14 at Reunion Field.

Masters battled hard and showed flashes of its potential in a 6-1 defeat against powerhouse Greenwich Academy, which has captured eight FAA championships over the last 15 years. Hannah Schapiro ’23 notched the Panthers' lone goal.

"Though it was not the outcome we were looking for, the game taught us a lot about our strengths and weaknesses as a team," said Kwynne Schlossman ’22, a defensive stalwart who serves as a co-captain alongside talented striker Camille Smith ’22. "We now know what we have to focus on in practice and are looking to bring up the intensity of the program."

The final outcome did little to diminish the squad's long-awaited return to interscholastic competition, which was akin to nirvana for a program on the rise.

"It was very exciting to be back on our home field," Schlossman said. "The seniors and I have been waiting for this for so long and it's great to see how much potential the team has after the first game."

The Panthers will look to fulfill that potential as they travel to face rival Hackley in their next match on Friday, September 17 at 4:30 p.m.
