Cross Country Teams Stay the Course This Season

It was a beautiful race day for the Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) cross country championships on November 1, at Sherwood Island Park in Westport, Connecticut.

Boys team captain Aidan Lothian ’22 finished 9th and earned All-FAA honors. Freshman Michael Stoica came in 19th and was an all-FAA honorable mention. Charlie Milward ’24 came in a valiant third for the squad; rounding out the 4th and 5th spots were Christopher Barnaby ’22 and Rooke Wiser ’25, respectively.

Head Coach Luciano Fiore called Lothian’s results “a great accomplishment” that was not surprising given his strong work ethic. “Aidan has been consistent all year and has been visualizing this goal all season,” Fiore said. “He embraced the mindset that one workout or one week of practice doesn’t define him, but rather the culmination of many months and years of intentional work.”

“Being able to finally reach that goal after years of grueling training felt incredibly rewarding, I have nobody to thank more than Coach Fiore for that,” Lothian said.

Ren Allendorf ’24 led the girls team and was the top finisher for Masters. Ava Viscarello ’25 and Sylvie Gromada ’23 placed 2nd and 3rd for the team, finishing back-to-back in the 60-person race. Alessandra Mañalac ’24 and Elaina Spencer ’24 rounded out the 4th and 5th slots with solid efforts.

Allendorf appreciated the support she received from teammates throughout the season, sharing that “We ran on the Old Croton Aqueduct together, we did workouts together, we ran hills together. Every bit of training we did, we did together, so I have to give a lot of credit to the rest of the amazing girls on the team and my coaches who pushed me constantly.”

Fiore was impressed with all his runners and their showing at the meet. “I’m proud of our race results, but I’m more excited about how our team supported one another and raced with heart, week in and week out, ultimately leading to a promising championship day.”

Lothian fondly looks back on his final season and offers his teammates this advice: “Do not compare yourself to others. This sport is an everyday battle towards beating yesterday's maximum output and finding joy in striving to be a better you.”
