JV1 Boys Soccer Captures FAA Title

The JV1 boys soccer squad closed out a stellar season on Saturday, November 5, capturing the Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) tournament title at Greens Farms Academy in Connecticut.

The Panthers, spurred on by goals from striker William Montgomery ’24 and winger Brian Wolfson ’25, defeated Greenwich Country Day School, 2-0, in the round-robin tournament's championship match. Keeper Teddy Meyer ’24 recorded his fourth consecutive clean sheet to anchor a strong defensive effort.

Masters won their round-robin group with a 2-0-1 record, battling Brunswick School to a scoreless draw and defeating King School, 2-0, and Greens Farms Academy, 4-0.

Against King, midfielder Michael Popa ’25 scored both goals, including a 30-yard ace on a free kick that effectively sealed promotion to the championship game ahead of Brunswick on goal differential. Montgomery, Wolfson, Aaron Weinberg ’25 and Alexis Catalan ’26 each tallied goals in the win over Greens Farms Academy.

Masters' defense was dominant all day, refusing to let the opposition find the back of the net. The unit was led by Meyer in net, tri-captain center backs Patrick Phillip ’24 and Eli Savage ’25, outside backs Luke Puthiyamadam ’25 and Velizar Lazarov ’25 and defensive midfielders Jacob Raab ’26 and Leon Cohen ’26.

The FAA championship was a fitting end for the squad, which was bolstered by 14 returning players and compiled an overall record 10-2-2 this fall. The Panthers scored 47 goals on the year and conceded just 18.
