Varsity Girls Lacrosse Finishes Strong

It was a blazing end to the regular season for Masters' varsity girls lacrosse squad, which reeled off five straight victories to finish an impressive two games above .500 on the year.

"The team continued to progress rapidly," said senior standout Sabine Godwin ’23. "We are lucky to have such an amazing coach (Alexis DiDomenico) who could make it possible. The team continued to grow in basic skills like catching and throwing, and everyone’s individual lacrosse IQ continued to get better and better as the season continued."

The five-game stretch of excellence began with an 11-8 victory over visiting Marymount on April 21. It continued with an inspiring 15-14 Senior Game victory over Fairchester Athletic Association foe King on April 25. Godwin noted that it was a seminal moment for a young and improving Masters team.

"After we won our Senior Games against the talented and skilled King team, something switched in our brains that we could really rally with these experienced teams," they said.

The Panthers then bested St. Luke's, 12-4, on May 2 and Hopkins, 10-3, on May 6. They closed out the red-hot run with a statement-making 15-11 win on the road over a previously undefeated Wooster squad.

Godwin, who will play Division 1 lacrosse at the University of Vermont next season, amassed an eye-popping 23 goals and seven assists during the stretch.

"I walk into every game with the mindset to go 100 percent at everything," they said. "Sometimes I would get in my own head, but I was lucky to have amazing coaches to encourage me and keep me going."

Di Domenico highlighted defenders Clio Foley ’26, Ella Black ’25 and Frenchi Ranvier ’26 and goalies Alexis Estime ’23 and Beatrice Hopper ’27 as key to the winning streak. Offensively, the coach noted the contributions of Michelle Nanna ’25 and Olivia Fitzsimmons ’25 over the final couple of games.

It was a season to remember for Godwin and all the Panthers.

"The team was just so amazing and we created such a good community, and I’ll always love the girls on the team," they said.
