Energy and Enthusiasm Abound During Opening Days

A new year has kicked off at The Masters School. Energy and enthusiasm buzzed through campus as students returned to over two weeks of Opening Days activities that started on Sunday, August 26.

Upper School preseason athletes and dancers were the first to arrive; they gathered on the fields and in the dance studio to start their practices. Boarders settled into their rooms, while parents and guardians attended an orientation session led by the Director of Residential Life, Dena Torino.

Movies, campfires and field trips into town and to museums in New York City provided boarders with a break from the very hectic first days.

Several sessions from Masters’ first-ever College Preseason Week were sprinkled throughout the days. Students received an introduction to the Common Application, attended a presentation by Lehigh University’s Danielle Luszczyk on the college essay, and learned about the importance of extracurricular activities.

On Friday, August 31, new Upper School families were greeted by members of the Parent Association (PA) at the PA’s hospitality tent and attended an orientation session, where they could direct questions to the director of residential life, the dean of students and the director of athletics, among other key administrators. A picnic dinner for families at Mann Dining Hall capped a full day of activities and events.

Earlier in the week, international families met with Dr. Rob Fish, Director of Global and Civic Exchange, to learn more about what students can expect during their first year as F-1 students.

Classes in the Upper School began on Tuesday, September 4. Students attended the first Morning Meeting of the year and met with their advisory groups. On Friday, September 7, grades 9-11 enjoyed class field trips, while seniors took advantage of the day to visit colleges.

As Upper School students began classes, Middle Schoolers arrived on campus for Meet Your Advisor Day. Members of the PA greeted the Middle School families. Classes for Middle School students started on Wednesday, September 5.
