Masters Students Bring Humor to the Art World

Masters community: Get ready to laugh as Upper School students bring Museum to the stage.

Written by playwright Tina Howe, Museum tells the story of three fictional contemporary American artists being exhibited in a major museum of modern art. Over the course of the day, the exhibit welcomes art critics and visitors from all walks of life. Intentionally absurd, the play highlights the different ways in which people respond to art.

Museum is a series of interlocking scenes that capture a “slice of life,” as worded by Variety magazine in its review of the play. According to The New York Times, "The gallery becomes a parable of humanity ... [in this] comedy of absurdities with a serious message."

“There are over 40 speaking roles in the play, so it’s likely that some of our veterans may be playing more than one role,” said theater teacher Chris Briante. “This is an ensemble-written show, which is a great way to start any theater season.”

Performances will take place on Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27, at 7:00 PM, in the Claudia Boettcher Theatre.
