Wrapping Up the Year With Artistic Flair

The impressive work on display in the annual Senior Art Exhibit includes a gallery from seniors who have been dedicated to the visual arts program during their Masters career. Department of Visual Arts Chair Cheryl Hajjar said that the exhibit is the most diverse collection in her time at Masters: “From traditional painting and drawing, printmaking, photography, digital art and political works, we have a broad spectrum of images and techniques.”

Meanwhile, in another exhibit of second semester art students' work, Hajjar said it was “wonderful to witness the artistic processes” of the students, who each selected one piece that best represented their work this year. “Looking through it all, one can see the multiple perspectives on a theme, and the level of creativity of our students,” she said.

Middle school art students shined this year, as well.

A sixth grade virtual art gallery compiled by middle school art teacher Bruce Robbins is the culmination of their study of the Hudson River School of Art, which became the inspiration for their hands-on exploration in watercolor landscape painting. Robbins was “quite proud of all the students’ fine efforts.”

And as artistic “powers for good,” seventh grade students unveiled their completed murals on the walls of the middle school temporary classrooms: “Equality” and “Masked World” in Doc Wilson Hall and “Respect” and “Perseverance” in Strayer Hall. Middle school art teacher Vicente Saavedra was pleased with the students’ enthusiasm and collaborative efforts. "Each mural sends a strong message of unity and resilience, during this much-needed time of health and social crisis,” he said.
