Visit From Down Under Provides Opportunity for Music and Cultural Exchange

With music as a common bond, a collaboration between Masters’ Department of Performing Arts and Global and Civic Exchange Program resulted in a rich artistic and cultural experience for the students of The Masters School and a visiting student-chorus from The Wenona School, a K-12 independent girls school in Sydney, Australia.
World Project, the organization that helped organize the Wenona School visit, reached out to Jennifer Carnevale, Chair of the Department of Performing Arts, in the fall to propose a joint concert. Seeking an experience with richer meaning for students of both schools, Carnevale worked with Dr. Rob Fish, Director of Global and Civic Exchange, to provide the visiting students with a glimpse of life at The Masters School by visiting classes and sharing meals with Tower Singers and Dobbs 16. “The visit highlighted the value of short, focused exchange opportunities,” said Fish. “During the course of the day, over 120 of our students had a chance to meet the Australians, and it clearly sparked excitement about learning from students from abroad for many of our students.”
The day culminated in the joint concert, where The Wenona School choir, Dobbs 16 and Tower Singers performed The Parting Glass by the Wailin’ Jennys.
