Lucas Seguinot ’24, the co-secretary general of Model UN, is thrilled to have landed his first award at last week’s MUN conference at The Ursuline School (TUSMUNC).
He is also quick to share the joy of his journey as a role model for the younger members of the team.
“I love getting to know all the kids, seeing them grow as delegates but also as people and helping them find their voices,” he said.
Seguinot, with Co-Secretary General Violet Paull ’24 and Director-General Sophie Moussapour ’25, lead the 40 upper school and 20 middle school student members who comprise the Masters Model UN team. Bobby Callagy ’24 helps mentor the middle school team.
Together, they are celebrating the team’s recent accolades.
One highlight of teamwork at its best was the TUSMUNC recognition for newcomers Noah Adler ’27 and Caleb Grasheim ’26 who were representing Myanmar in a UN Security Council meeting about the 2021 military coup.
“They used the rules of Model UN and some very strong speeches and one-on-one negotiation to secure the votes they needed for their resolution to pass just barely,” explained Brittany Farrar, MUN faculty advisor along with Ben Thorn. “It was a heroic moment, and the room literally went up in cheers when it passed.”

Next weekend, upper school delegates head to Brown University for The Brown University Simulation of the United Nations (BUSUN) conference for more debate and diplomacy. They have been preparing for the past three weeks during club meetings by reading background material and gleaning advice from senior members of the team.
“It’s our first time attending, and honestly, we’re really just excited to be involved,” explained Brittany Farrar, MUN faculty advisor along with Ben Thorn. “It’s an application-only conference that is kept purposefully small compared to some of the other events on our calendar. So, it’s an environment that is most similar to a Harkness classroom and in which the team tends to thrive.”
After BUSUN, the students will host their second MASMUNC conference at Masters on December 2. More than 120 delegates from the area have registered and Seguinot said they are ready: “Violet, Sophie and I did a lot of the preparation over the summer and now we just need to write our speeches and make sure it runs smoothly.”
“Going to Brown and seeing how they run a small, growth-oriented conference will help us replicate that environment at MASMUNC,” Farrar added.
