Vasser Captures FAA Singles Crown

Senior Oren Vasser captured the Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) boys' varsity singles title on Monday, May 14 at the Hopkins School. Vasser, who will play at William & Mary next season, defeated Brunswick's Ryan Glanville (2-6, 7-6, 10-8) in the championship.

It marked the first-ever FAA boys' varsity singles title for Masters' program. "It was a great way for Oren to cap off his four years," Panthers coach Greg Lesser said. "Oren has played first singles for us since freshman year. This is a great capper to the end of his career here."

Vasser entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed and received a first-round bye. He bested Connor McDonald from Greens Farms Academy, 8-1, in the quarterfinal and topped Brunswick's Ben Powis, 8-6, in the semifinal.

"Oren's forehand was on fire," Lesser said. "It's his best shot. That's his biggest strength."

Vasser was cheered on by his fellow teammates in the final, creating an electric atmosphere.

"They were cheering him on every point," Lesser said. "It was almost like a team win — even though Oren won it individually."

Alex Magill also competed in singles for Masters. Eric Dowd/Max Miller and Matt Friedman/Sam Holliday represented the Panthers in doubles.
